Susan Rossiter designed A Day in the Park.

Susan says: “A Day in the Park was created from a blind contour drawing made at the park- blind contour meaning I didn’t look at the sketchbook, only the flowers and did a very quick line drawing with no erasing so all the over and under lines are visible. Additional lines are added later so that the image makes sense and has good composition. This stencil looks great on its own or as part of a larger piece as shown in the first image on the lower right corner. For this piece, Fiber Paste was pushed through the stencil creating a nice texture. The other examples show use of acrylic colors and PanPastel with some other mark making pencils."

Susan says: “Imagined Florals is a more whimsical take on another stencil called A Day in the Park. A lot more shapes were added and this one is fun to trace and cut collage shapes that can be glued in, or a strategically painted background with lots of small busy areas looks fabulous as a background before you add the stencil. As a standalone image- I like the simplicity of one color and some complimentary linework."

Susan says: "Inspired by mid-century textile designers, these shapes can be used for backgrounds or as flowers or starts of flowers. They look great layered in with themselves or with other stencils. I really love the idea of doing decorative work with each little petal and cutting paper shapes to glue into the middles and just going crazy with colors."

Susan Rossiter designed Mid Century Pattern.

Susan says: "This stencil is made of patterns inspired by a mid-century textile designer; they look great on backgrounds or as is. The shapes were all hand cut- I like having my 'hand' in the process so the imperfections and size variations are unique rather than a computer rendered perfect pattern. Adding a second row of this pattern with another color makes an interesting effect. I’d love to see this made with quite similar neutral colors for a background."
