The Stitched stencil by Carol Wiebe was inspired by many things, including the ties between the history between women and stitch work, including quilting, embroidery, and mending - both physical and emotional. We can mend socks, but we can also mend our own hearts and minds, both with stitch and as we stitch. Stitches are also representative of healing; when someone is injured they go to get stitches, to get stitched up. The final point of inspiration is the fact that many are adding stitching to their journals and mixed media work. (Carol also loves the earthy sound of the word stitch. It is short and to the point. It also rhymes with a word every woman has probably been called sometime in her life!)

Use this stencil for backgrounds and patterns in art journaling and mixed media. Also, since this is a mask, it's perfect for monoprinting with a gelatin plate.
