Linda Edkins Wyatt, a mixed media artist living in the heart of New York City, has been making art since childhood. She is rooted in sewing, fabrics, and fibers, and began designing and making her own clothing and accessories as a preteen. She started her professional art career as a textile designer and print stylist in New York City’s Garment Center, and later transitioned to layout design and writing in the healthcare industry. Her personal struggle with panic disorder led to an interest in alternative healing as well as the rediscovery of childhood art techniques, especially scribbling and paper dollmaking, as a release for anxiety.
Linda, who holds degrees from SUNY Oneonta and the Fashion Institute of Technology, teaches mixed media classes at The Ink Pad NYC in Greenwich Village. She has had artwork and articles published in the books Mixed Media Self Portraits, 1000 Artist Journal Pages, and Quilts and Health. Her mixed media work and art quilts have appeared in the magazines, Cloth Paper Scissors, Quilting Arts, Just Mixed Media, Just Swap Art, and Just Steampunk as well as the juried quilt show Sacred Threads.

Lily, a Lemurian Garden Stencil by Linda Edkins Wyatt Lily, Lemurian Garden

The Lily, Lemurian Garden stencil reminds designer Linda Edkins Wyatt of the tiger lilies that bloomed around her front porch growing up. Let this lovely stencil bloom in your art journal or on an embroidered jean pocket.
The set of five stencils are named for Lemuria, believed to be an ancient continent that sank thousands of years ago, in what now is the Hawaiian Islands. Some believe that it was a Garden of Eden, a spiritually evolved civilization where people lived in harmony with nature and the universe. The stencils are all derived from designs that Linda has been drawing—consciously and subconsciously—since she was young.
Used together, these two small and three mini stencils, Lemurian Garden Leaf (S803), Tulip (S802), Lily (M302), Spiral (M304), and Pansy (M303) make a striking and inviting array that might have bloomed and flourished in a tropical garden.
