Nicole Watson created Bean Toes in memory of her buddy Grayson, a fluffy gray kitty her husband brought home from work one day at just about 6 weeks old. Saying goodbye to Gray almost 19 years later was one of her hardest days. While thinking about how much she missed his “help” in her studio, holding him and admiring his cute paws, she had the idea of how much fun and healing it would be to design a stencil to hold onto those memories (and still have his feet all over her art!).

If you look closely at the repeated pattern, it is a silhouette taken from a photo of Gray-kitty’s little bean toes. This versatile stencil is perfect for acrylic in background layers to create interest, texture or make collage papers. Use the pattern as a whole or isolate different parts of the image. The reverse prints make such a unique repeating pattern that it’s hard to tell they are paw prints.

She can’t wait to begin sneaking little bean toes into her mixed media layers and hopes you will enjoy it, too.
